Ecumen Transitional Care Unit & Wellness Center

Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

Shingobee provided the construction of a new Short-Stay Rehabilitation and Wellness Center at Ecumen Detroit Lakes. The project is a key component of what is envisioned as an innovative “one-stop aging services hub” that integrates technology, socialization, fitness, nutrition and health care to help keep seniors in rural Becker County healthier and independent.

The 18,300 square foot addition includes 31 patient rooms, dining and living areas, a physical therapy center with a hydrotherapy pool, a wellness center with a bistro, a telehealth center, and a yoga room. Modifications in the 75,750-square-foot existing facility included a refresh of 78 existing rooms and renovation of offices, public spaces, dining, and food service areas. The existing campus includes nursing care and independent, assisted, and memory care living options.

Safety of residents was of utmost importance during the expansion/remodel project; Shingobee’s construction team worked closely with the facility’s management to ensure their protection during the construction process.

Construction began in August 2013; completion and occupancy of various areas were phased through December 2014.
