Shingobee featured in Finance & Commerce article – Contractors navigate special issues at senior housing facilitiesMarch 2017, by Elliot Christensen
Shingobee Vice President Tony Godlewski was one of several interviewees quoted in a recent article by Dan Heilman for the Finance & Commerce publication. The article discussed the many challenges contractors face when providing renovations or expansions in existing facilities, and the extra planning and consideration required when those are senior housing facilities.
Tony was quoted, “You have to be cognizant of the owner’s clients. In the case of senior living, those clients are there 24 hours a day. You can’t work at night because they’re sleeping.”
He also spoke to the importance of ongoing communication,
and making it fun for the residents. They enjoy having the ability to interact with the workers and observe the construction. “Shingobee holds weekly information sessions to let residents ask questions. Workers also add windows to temporary walls so that residents can watch workers do their thing.”
Shingobee has provided construction of several senior housing facilities, both expansion / renovation projects and new construction, throughout Minnesota. Recent projects include the Ecumen Transitional Care Unit and Wellness Center in Detroit Lakes, Sunlight Senior Living expansion in St. Paul, and Auburn Meadows Assisted Living in Waconia.
